GPU HELL...I mean help?

I'm almost done with a new build! The GPU is one of my last parts to buy. I found a 7950GT(lifetime warranty, 512mb, 256bit, 550mhz core, 1400mhz mem clock) for 160 USD after rebate...sounds like a good deal to me. Is it better than the x850xt ( 256mb, 256 bit) that I used in my last build, and what current gen card does it compare to?? I'm guessing it's somewhere between the 8600 and the 8800? I don't really care for dx10 atm btw...since most current releases will support both dx9 and 10 for a while to come.
